EMRE HUSMEN

Cars have fascinated me for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I collected car magazines and spent hours sketching my own designs. The Porsche 993 Turbo was my first dream car, and it still is. What started as a childhood fascination gradually became a way of looking at things: observing shapes, proportions, details and the character that makes one car feel completely different from another.

For me, automotive design is about more than drawing a good-looking car. It’s about finding the right balance between proportions, surfaces, details and identity. I’m particularly drawn to streamlined forms, aerodynamic qualities and clean surfaces — designs that feel purposeful and distinctive without needing too much decoration. I enjoy exploring an idea through sketches, pushing proportions and volumes, and seeing how small changes can transform the character of a vehicle. Sometimes the strongest solution is not the most complicated one, but the one where everything feels right together.

My path into automotive design took me from studying Industrial Design in Toronto to IED Torino in Italy, where I completed my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Transportation Design. I later worked with international design teams, developing concepts across different vehicle types and design environments. Those experiences helped shape the way I approach a project today, combining visual exploration and creative thinking with an understanding of packaging, functionality and production constraints.

In 2019, I started emrEHusmen® design, my independent design consultancy. Since then, I’ve directly worked with clients around the world on automotive concepts, product-related projects and visual solutions. Working independently gives me the opportunity to explore different ideas, collaborate with people from different backgrounds and approach each project with fresh eyes. Whether I’m developing a vehicle concept or refining a particular detail, I enjoy the process of questioning the obvious, exploring alternatives and finding a solution that feels both distinctive and considered.

Outside of design, I enjoy road cycling, F1, art, science, philosophy and a good coffee. I’m curious about how things work and why certain things appeal to us — an interest that often finds its way back into my work.
